Librarian Spotlight: Michelle Keba Knecht, the Senior Medical Librarian

Meet Michelle Keba Knecht, the Senior Medical Librarian at FAU's Schmidt College of Medicine. In her role, Michelle takes on the vital responsibility of managing the College of Medicine's library resources and plays a pivotal part in leading the evidence-based medicine curriculum as the co-director of the Life-Long Learning & Discovery thread. Open Access Week 2023:  Misunderstandings About The Model

International Open Access Week is October 23 – 29, 2023, and is dedicated to promoting Open Access and the ways students, scholars, and educators can use it for their teaching, learning, and research. Learn more and see the upcoming webinars here. 

 

In a recent Bra Drive, University Libraries achieved an outstanding milestone by collecting 51 pounds of essential bras and shelter supplies. These supplies will be donated to the Young Women's Christian Association of Palm Beach County, an organization working tirelessly to eliminate racism and empower women and girls to enhance their quality of life. Textbook Affordability and Adoption:  Assistance Available Through the FAU Libraries

Bombing the Nazis: The Wartime Service of Harold L. Glasser

Florida Atlantic University Libraries host a lecture with a retired Marine Corps fighter pilot and author of numerous books about aviation Jay Stout, followed by a dessert reception at the Harold L. Glasser exhibition. Held on Tuesday, November 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the S. E. Wimberly Library in Boca Raton, the event is free, with registration encouraged. The lecture at 4 p.m. on the 5th floor of the library is followed by the dessert reception at the Weiner Suite, where guests can see the Harold L. Glasser Exhibit and interact with the speaker.

 

Jaffe Center Workshop

Don't miss the Magical Movable Paper virtual workshop with Instructor Stephanie Wolff on Wednesday, October 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. Learn to make movable paper devices, including a flexagon, a magic wallet, and a spinner (also known as a thaumatrope).  Advance registration is required for all JCBA workshops. 

 

 

Wimberly PAWS, Therapy Dog at the Library on October 10

Mark your calendars for Wimberly PAWS on Tuesday, October 10. Stop by the Wimberly Library lobby at 11 a.m. to spend time with K9 Vallie and get tips on battling exam-related stress and anxiety from Owls Care services.
Enjoy the crafts table with coloring sheets and inspirational messages and take a moment to relax and de-stress.

Jaffe Center for Book Arts presents Marginalia, a new exhibit of books and prints from the collection. The exhibition includes works by Islam Aly, Julia Arredondo, John Ashbery, Ben Blount, John Eric Broaddus, and others. Available through January, the exhibit is open Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

 

Starting Monday, Oct. 2, S.E. Wimberly Library will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 12 a.m. while Jupiter Campus Library will be open until 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Our online services and resources are always available, even when the library is closed. Please visit our Lib2Go page to access all our online resources and services. As a reminder, our Ask a Librarian service is now available 24/7.
