Zisl Slepovitch, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, musicologist, founding member of Litvakus klezmer band; Musician-in-Residence at Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies at Yale University. Film & theatre credits Defiance movie and Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish (off-Broadway). This event is perfect for music lovers and those curious about the subject. You'll enjoy a live performance and learn from a scholarly perspective. University Libraries participated in Owl Involved, a gathering of new students and those interested in exploring our campus departments and organizations. University Libraries took part in the experience helping students to learn more about library resources. while interacting with students, we distributed numerous goodies and library swag. If you missed the event with us, no need to worry; there will be events posted on our website and all University Libraries' social media platforms.

 

To assist Florida Atlantic faculty and staff with the Article Processing Charges (APC) associated with Open Access, Elsevier has extended a 15% discount on APC charges for Florida Atlantic authors and researchers who publish their articles in an Elsevier journal. This is made possible through Florida Atlantic's participation in the State University System Libraries’ ScienceDirect contract.

Public Domain Day 2024: Starring Steamboat Willie, Gershwin, and Chaplin

January 1 is celebrated as Public Domain Day to increase awareness of copyright and public domain, and to highlight the books, films, and other works that are free of copyright protection. Read on to see which images, books, music, and other creations joined the public domain today.

 

The Office of Provost and University Libraries celebrate the creative, distinguished, and dedicated work of the Florida Atlantic University community. Florida Atlantic faculty and staff are invited to submit their work published during the previous school year (July 2022 - June 2023). Qualifying works include book authors and co-authors (print & electronic), editors and co-editors who have written some part of the book, artists who published or produced creative work, musical compositions, theatrical productions, art and photography, audio and video recordings, journal articles, and conference proceedings.   

 

JAFFE Holiday Card Social

Bring your cards, bring your stamps, and let's get those holiday cards in the mail! We'll be gathering in the Jaffe Book Arts Gallery for a special in-house Real Mail Fridays session devoted just to midwinter holiday cards on Tuesday December 12. Bring your Christmas cards, bring your Chanukah cards (Chanukah continues to December 15!), bring your Kwanzaa cards and Yule cards and New Year cards, and don't forget your postage stamps, too. We'll supply the gathering spot and simple art supplies and a Very Jaffe Soundtrack of delightfully unusual music for the season. 

 

 

University Libraries Winter Hours

As the end of the Fall 2023 semester approaches, the University Libraries are adjusting the operating hours to accommodate the needs of the Florida Atlantic community during finals week and intercession. The Libraries will be closed on Saturday, December 16, and Sunday, December 17 for the Intersession; and on Monday, December 18, for the staff training event. University Libraries will close for the Holidays from Saturday, December 23, to Tuesday, January 2. Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
