"I became a librarian because I love the culture of support and sharing and helping others succeed. I love learning new things, following trails through information, and discovering the connections and patterns created by information. Plus I love books and I love cats, so I had to go with the stereotype!" - Jerrel Horn

Area of Expertise: Jerrel specializes in STEM subjects, focusing on Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, and related fields. Her primary goal is to fortify Libraries' relationships with key academic units, such as the College of Science and the College of Computer Science and Engineering. This involves assessing and enriching the University Libraries collections to serve these areas better and identifying opportunities to provide tailored support to students and faculty.

She is attuned to the unique resource needs of students in her liaison areas, ensuring that they have access to the specialized materials required for their academic pursuits.

Passion for Librarianship: Jerrel's journey into librarianship was driven by a love for fostering a culture of support, sharing knowledge, and helping others succeed. Her fascination with the intricacies of information, uncovering connections, and navigating the vast landscape of knowledge led her to this fulfilling profession. And yes, she does love books and cats – embracing the endearing librarian stereotype.

Favorite Aspects of the Job: Jerrel finds immense satisfaction in guiding individuals through the effective use of library resources, introducing them to intriguing sections of our collection, engaging in enlightening discussions with colleagues, and, importantly, being in an environment that encourages continuous learning.

Reading Interests: Outside of her library duties, Jerrel indulges her intellectual curiosity by delving into books on mathematics, quantum mechanics, cosmology, as well as enjoying the worlds of fantasy and mystery literature.

Fun Fact: Beyond her academic pursuits, Jerrel possesses a unique skill – she knows how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. In fact, she once expertly used the "rolling start" technique to get a VW van back on the road, a testament to her resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities.

Jerrel Horn's dedication to supporting the academic journey of our students and faculty, particularly in STEM fields, exemplifies the spirit of our library community. We are grateful for her contributions and look forward to seeing the positive impact she continues to make on our campus.
