Troubleshooting Error Messages (College of Medicine)

 We apologize for the inconvenience and want to thank you for making it to this page. The error you encountered may be related to the resource itself and require library escalation or it many be solved with a few troubleshooting steps. Please select one of the below to troubleshoot.

General Search & Access Errors  

To quickly troubleshoot: 

  • Clear your cache/ browsing history/ cookies: OpenAthens takes up more 'space' than EZProxy and may require clearing your browsing history and cached images and files to work.  Since clearing cookies signs a user out of most sites, feel free to skip that and see if the issue resolves without clearing cookies. 
    • For assistance on how to clear your history, google/search for your browser and clearing history: "Firefox clearing history." If you need further assistance please reach out to the librarians. 
  • Switch browsers:  Some Library resources are working when accessed in an alternative browser. For example, if you are using Chrome try Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. 
  • Reach out! Report an OpenAthens connection issue or reach out to the Librarians by submitting a COM Support Ticket or an email to librarymed@health.fau.edu with the error message, and we can assist you further.
Learning Objectives & Readings Document Errors

To quickly troubleshoot: 

  • Re-try the link: Occasionally a link does not work the first time it is clicked. Close out the error tab and click the link again. 
  • Copy/paste link into a new tab: Right click the hyperlink and choose "copy hyperlink" from the drop down. Paste the link from the Word Doc into your browser as a new tab. 
  • Switch browsers: Some Library resources are working when accessed in an alternative browser. For example, if you are using Chrome try Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. 
  • Access via the Core Books List: visit the Core Book List to access the course and relevant book title if the above troubleshooting steps do not work. 
  • Reach out! Please let the librarians know by submitting a COM Support Ticket or an email to librarymed@health.fau.edu with the error message. We can assist you further, including escalating the issue to our vendors. 
"Forbidden" Error

Your account likely has a date hold on it and will need to be extended if applicable. Please reach out for the librarians to investigate further. 

400 Bad Request

Likely the link you are using is broken. 

  • Are you using a bookmark? Access the resource via the medical page: 
    • Click https://library.fau.edu/medical
    • In the left navigation column, click "library resources." 
    • Use the center blue search box to search using a keyword search. 
    • Use the gray resource box to click on the resource's hyperlink. 
    • If this leads to the resource, update your bookmark. 
  • If you are still experiencing issues, Reach out! Please let the librarians know by submitting a COM Support Ticket or an email to librarymed@health.fau.edu with the error message. We can assist you further, including escalating the issue to our vendors. 

Possible Error Messages (please note this is not an inclusive list):

  • Bad Request: Cookies not enabled. For assistance please contact your organization administrator. 
  • Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost.
  • Bad Request Unknown site 
  • Forbidden: You are not entitled to access this resource. For assistance please contact your organization administrator." 
  • 400 bad request
