Florida Atlantic University Libraries hosted a sold-out Veterans Day event with speaker Jay Stout, a retired Marine Corps pilot, alongside the exhibition "Bombing the Nazis: The Wartime Service of Harold L. Glasser."
Over 120 attendees, including students, faculty, veterans, and community members, gathered to honor the legacy of Harold L. Glasser.
Among the guests were FAU President Emeritus John Kelly, Dean of College of Arts and Letters Michael Horswell, Florida Atlantic Vice President of Financial Affairs & Chief Financial Officer Jayson Iroff, Director of University Military and Veterans Affairs Donald Gabriel, Chair of History Department Douglas Kanter, and library benefactor Howard Weiner.
The event was sponsored by Mrs. Marny Glasser-Goldman in honor of her late husband. Dr. Kollander introduced the speaker and moderated the after-lecture discussion.
Jay Stout shared an informative and engaging presentation of the history of American bombardier pilots during the Second World War and their role in defeating the Nazi Germany.
After serving in the Marine Corps for 20 years, accumulating over 4,500 flight hours, and completing 37 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm, Stout wrote multiple books about American aviation. The guests shared it was a great pleasure to hear his lecture on the subject.
University Libraries Special Collections Department created an exhibition of Harold L. Glasser memorabilia to complement the lecture and provide the guests of the event with a deeper understanding of the legacy of the late businessman and veteran.
Included in the exhibition are personal documents and photographs of Harold L. Glasser and his bombardier jacket which was recently restored. The exhibit is available until December 7 and open Tuesday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
