In a heartwarming initiative, the Florida Atlantic Student Government has joined forces with the University Libraries to bring a convenient and essential resource to our campus community—a mini-pantry. Installed within the welcoming walls of the Wimberly Library, this thoughtful addition aims to address food security concerns among students, offering a helping hand when needed the most.
The mini-pantry is set to make a significant impact by providing non-perishable food items regularly stocked for students facing food insecurity. This invaluable resource ensures that every student, regardless of their circumstances, has access to nourishing meals.
Student Body President Dalia Calvillo emphasized the strategic placement of the pantry next to the Victim Services office on the first floor of the Wimberly Library, highlighting the Libraries' extensive outreach to students. By offering this essential resource in a highly accessible location, it becomes even more convenient for those in need to access the support they deserve.
Calvillo added that students in need can also access mini pantries located at Atlantic Parking Towers, Indian River Towers, Heritage Parking Towers, Glades Parking Towers, Parliament, IVA North & IVA South, and at UVA main entrance.
Dean Linda Golian-Lui expressed the Libraries' immense pride in collaborating with Student Government on this vital project. She stated, "Helping to ensure food security for our students is incredibly important to me, and we are looking forward to more collaborations with SG." This partnership exemplifies the University Libraries commitment to the well-being and success of students, extending beyond academic pursuits.
"As the mini-pantry opens its doors within the University Libraries, it represents not just a place to find sustenance but also a symbol of a caring and inclusive campus community. It is a testament to the belief that together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive," - said Dr. Golian-Lui.
