Welcome to Open Education Week!
by Sheri Edwards, Associate University Librarian and Open Educational Resources Coordinator
Greetings, all! March 1-5 marks international Open Education Week, and FAU Libraries welcomes you to engage with us as we continue to strive for openness in knowledge creation and sharing.
What is Open Education?
Open education refers to the technology, resources, and practices that occur within a collaborative framework of knowledge sharing. While the idea of sharing resources is not new, Open Education uses digital technology (like the Internet) to allow for free dissemination of educational resources, and for modifying and using those resources for diverse audiences.
Why is Open Education important?
Teachers can help students find new ways to learn, workers can learn new skills, and people can connect with one another to new information and viewpoints. This helps expand access to new knowledge and ideas around the globe, making educational resources available, modifiable, and free!
