The Ice Cream Social hosted by University Libraries this past summer is becoming a notable annual tradition, and for good reason.
Drawing the participation of over one hundred students, the event offered a welcome break for both staff and attendees while also extending a warm greeting to new Owls embarking on their FAU journey during the summer semester.
An integral part of the Red and Blue Week Scavenger Hunt, which successfully engaged over 200 students, yielding an impressive 1700 submissions, the Ice Cream Social emerged as a focal point for introducing students to library spaces, services, and programs in an interactive and enjoyable manner.
Beyond its tempting ice cream offerings, the event provided an opportunity for students to interact directly with librarians, learn more about 3D printing, and discover the wide array of workshops and events offered by the Jaffe Center for Book Arts. Attendees also had the chance to win library swag and spend time with Vallie, the beloved FAU PD therapy dog.
Student success starts at the library, and events like Ice Cream Social help make the library experience less intimidating, especially for those new to the campus and college in general.
Student engagement events foster a sense of belonging and cultivate an environment where students feel comfortable seeking assistance and utilizing library spaces for their academic pursuits. These events stand as a testament to the University Libraries' commitment to making every student's experience inclusive, supportive, and, ultimately, successful.
