FAU Libraries Equipment Borrowing Agreement and Lending Procedure

Eligibility

  • Borrowers must have a valid Owl/library card.

Terms of Use

  • Laptops are loaned for a three-hour period. Equipment may leave the building.  Borrowed equipment must be returned to the kiosk after 3 hours. If more time is desired, a different item may be checked out if there is a one available.
  • A borrower may only check out one laptop at any time.
  • The laptops are traceable and may be subject to retrieval via GPS tracking if not returned on time.

Liability

  • The borrower or parent/legal guardian, if borrower is under 18 years of age, is responsible for all costs associated with damaged or lost devices due to neglect or abuse.
  • The Library is not responsible for any objectionable material that may be found on the Internet while using a Laptop. The campus network is unfiltered and cannot block all possible questionable or illegal content.
  • It is the sole right and responsibility of the parent/legal guardian to provide any monitoring or restriction of their child's access to the Internet while device is checked out.
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for any loss and damages, direct or indirect, of personal, academic and/or financial information incurred while the borrower is using the laptop.
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for a borrowers inability to access the internet, canvas, classes, quizzes or exams while the borrower is using the laptop.

Proper Care and Use

  • As with any electronic device, borrowers should use care when handling.
  • All borrowers should use the device in a responsible and courteous manner, consistent with the purposes for which it is provided.
  • No software or settings may not be altered, and no programs or applications may be added or removed.
  • Borrowers may not use devices for illegal or unethical purposes.
  • Devices should not be loaned to a third party. The borrower is responsible for the safe return of the device when it is due.
  • There are no floppy drives or DVD/CD drives on the laptops. You must use a personal USB device to save your work.
  • All data will be lost upon shutdown, reboot or check in of the laptop.
     

Any violations of this procedure may result in the immediate suspension or termination of laptop privileges.
