Collection Development Policy for Special Collections

Mission Statement:

Florida Atlantic University Libraries Special Collections offers a diverse learning and enriching experience that inspires creativity, supports research and promotes teaching. From preservation to engaging researchers with expanded access to rare and unique items Special Collections serves as a proactive collaboratory through transformative programs that reinvent the library for the 21st century.

Special Collections accepts printed books, manuscripts, broadsides, photographs, prints and drawings, sheet music, artifacts, and other formats in support of the Library’s mission to serve the undergraduate and graduate teaching and research programs. Materials in Special Collections support curriculum, teaching, and research. We are committed to developing distinctive collections and building on existing strengths. Special Collections is committed to providing an environment centered on student learning and engagement with primary resources.  In addition, we provide service to FAU faculty and staff, scholars from other institutions, national and international, as well as to the general public.

Due to budget constraints, Special Collections does not purchase collections.
