Biography

Victoria Thur is Assistant Dean for Special Collections, Archives, and Distinctive Collections at Florida Atlantic University Libraries. A rare book librarian and certified archivist, she has served FAU Libraries for more than 20 years and joined the Special Collections team in 2009.

In her role, Vicky leads, curates, and stewards the library's distinctive collections, including the Marvin & Weiner Collection, Jaffe Center for Book Arts, the Recorded Sound Archives, and the University Archives. These collections span the 16th century to the present and include rare books and manuscripts, artist books, photographs, sound recordings, records, and other primary source materials.

Vicky teaches a semester-long course, Introduction to Archives. The course introduces students to the fundamentals of archives, including key ideas, professional practice, and ethical responsibilities, while exploring current issues and trends shaping the field. It combines discussion with hands-on learning, giving students the opportunity to work directly with archival materials. Through this experience, students build practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of what archivists and librarians do and why their work matters.

Vicky works closely with her team to develop exhibitions, support teaching and research, and create meaningful opportunities for students, faculty, and the broader community to engage with these unique resources. Through class visits, public programming, and outreach, she is committed to making Special Collections accessible, relevant, and impactful.
