Malka Schyndel’s work supports library resources that require specialized cataloging, including distinctive materials from the Weiner Spirit of America collection, Jaffe Center for Book Arts, Larkin American Presidential Study, and general Special Collections at the Wimberly Library. She also reviews and proposes local metadata policies and workflows to improve user discovery and access to these unique collections.
Before assuming her current role as the Special Collections Cataloging Librarian at the Wimberly Library Special Collections Department, Malka served as Catalog Librarian in Technical Services (now part of the Collection Management Department) where she created and enhanced bibliographic records for materials in numerous formats and in both Western and non-Western languages across three campus branch libraries. Her responsibilities also extended to supporting the Libraries’ assessment initiatives, including self-assessment studies design, reporting about the Libraries’ assessment plans in the University’s Assessment Database, conducting customer satisfaction surveys using LibPAS/LibSat and other tools, preparing survey results reports, and co-presenting at State and National conferences on assessment (2002-2007/2009-2016). Malka has actively contributed to the FAU Libraries Faculty community through working groups, committee service, and Assembly membership.
Prior to FAU, Malka held several library roles, including Librarian at the San Jose Public Library System (San Jose, California), Assistant Medical Librarian at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Library (San Jose, California), and Cataloger at Lotus Development Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
