Lawrence J. Mello, Jr. (Larry) brings a distinguished background as a Naval Veteran and dual graduate of Florida Atlantic University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in History, complemented by a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland. He serves as the Research and Instructional Librarian and Government Information and Maps Coordinator at Florida Atlantic University Libraries.

As a Research and Instructional Service Librarian, Mr. Mello diligently addresses the research needs of FAU’s academic community through comprehensive instruction and consultation services across a broad spectrum of research disciplines. He fulfills the critical function of liaison and subject specialist for academic areas such as History, Political Science, Communication & Multimedia, Sociology, Criminology & Criminal Justice, and Urban & Regional Planning. Collaborating closely with colleagues, he plays a pivotal role in developing and curating information resources that align with the objectives of the liaison program and the Research and Instruction Services department. Additionally, Mr. Mello is responsible for creating and maintaining various Primary Source Subject Guides, essential tools that facilitate valuable research opportunities for library patrons.  

As the Government Information and Maps Coordinator for FAU Libraries, a designated Federal Depository Library (FDLP), Mr. Mello is dedicated to upholding the mission of the Federal Depository Library Program by ensuring comprehensive access to nearly 300,000 print and electronic government documents. His responsibilities extend to curating Government Information Subject Guides that provide extensive coverage of Federal, Florida State, and Government Data and Statistics, thereby keeping the American public well-informed.

Mr. Mello’s commitment to the transformative potential of libraries is evidenced through his active engagement at local, state, and national levels within library associations. His professional focus areas include library history, research, intellectual freedom, and government information. Central to his service and scholarly pursuits is an unwavering belief in the profound impact of libraries on enhancing lives, a conviction that permeates his professional endeavors.

In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Mello actively contributes to community services, participating in local food drives, supporting Special Olympics, advocating for autism awareness, and contributing to veterans’ initiatives. His multifaceted dedication reflects his deep commitment to academic excellence and community welfare.
