The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artist's books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. The Digital Library creates online collections from unique materials housed in Special Collections and University Archives and serves as the University's repository for the intellectual output produced on campus.

As a member of the FAU Libraries’ Interlibrary Loan Department, and reporting directly to the Interlibrary Loan Manager, the Academic Paraprofessional provides essential support to meet the resource sharing needs of the Florida Atlantic University community. This position will act as the front-facing contact for the Interlibrary Loan Department (ILL), including providing direct customer service support in-person, via technology (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams), and with the departmental email account. They will also work collaboratively within the Libraries’ Interlibrary Loan Department on departmental group projects and tasks.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to further the Libraries’ Top 100/R1 initiatives.
  • Process all returnable lending requests and ensure the prompt handling of special negotiated services, such as UBorrow and Rapid.
  • Help oversee ILL technology including the ILLiad module, BookEye scanner, and printers.
  • Take the lead on ILL-specific data projects.
  • Assist in the assessment of departmental services to identify issues and ensure best practices are followed.
  • Act as the main backup for both lending article requests and borrowing requests.
  • Assist in promoting ILL services to students and faculty via tabling and other forms of engagement.
  • Assist with student supervision.
  • Participate in Library and University Committees.
  • Participate in Library Engagement Activities.
  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

 Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Two years of appropriate office or customer service experience.

  • Experience working in libraries or in an academic organization.
  • Experience with Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint.

  • Experience in using ILLiad, Rapid ILL, or OCLC WorldShare.
  • Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) and discovery tool, ExLibris Alma/Primo VE experience.
  • Experience using scanning equipment, Bookeye.
  • Experience corresponding via multiple means of communication (email, phone, and other online meeting systems, e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom).

Work Days and Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. Some weekends and nights as needed to meet academic deadlines. This position will primarily work on the Boca Raton Campus but may at times be asked to work at one of five other FAU campuses with advance notice.
