The FAU Libraries have prioritized working collaboratively with the campus community on a Top 100/R1 research initiative that includes a highly engaged campus and community environment. FAU Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80,000 electronic journals, nearly 500 databases, and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos.

The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artist's books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. The Digital Library creates online collections from unique materials housed in Special Collections and University Archives and serves as the University's repository for the intellectual output produced on campus.

.As a member of the FAU Libraries’ Department of External Relations, and reporting directly to the Director of External Relations, the Community Engagement Coordinator develops and implements strategies to engage and steward community members, donors, and prospects with the Libraries. This position works closely with the Libraries’ personnel and volunteers to plan, coordinate, and implement events, programs, meetings, and communications to support the Libraries’ initiatives. This position is responsible for supporting current and new external relationships while being responsible for creating reports and other administrative functions supporting library engagement, outreach, and development programs.

Summary of Responsibilities

Coordinate donor recognition and stewardship efforts, including events and mailings.

  • Maintain a database of Friends of the Library members and collaborate with the University Advancement team to implement strategies and tactics to engage and solicit donors.
  • Coordinate donor recognition activities.
  • Work with the Libraries’ events team to plan and execute high-quality events for donors and prospects, including annual and special events.
  • Provide updates to the University donor database.
  • Work closely with staff and volunteers to plan, execute and seek sponsorships for fundraisers and other events.
  • Handle communications, agendas, and coordination of meetings in support of the Libraries’ initiatives.
  • Create donor engagement communication materials, including messages and correspondence on behalf of the Dean of the Libraries, impact reports, solicitation materials, and other materials related to the Libraries’ initiatives.
  • Provide routine communications to the Friends of the Library members.
  • Assist the Libraries’ communication team in developing messages targeting community engagement.
  • Maintain records and correspondence.
  • Plan and execute programs such as book sales, online bookstores, book clubs and author talks.
  • Develop and maintain metrics on the effectiveness of events and promotional materials to be used in the decision-making process.
  • Work with community organizations and external groups to promote library services and resources.
  • Represent the FAU Libraries around campus, in the community, and in the profession while serving on committees, participating in community activities and library engagement activities.
  • Work collaboratively within the Libraries’ External Relations Department on departmental group projects and tasks.
  • Work collaboratively to further the Libraries’ Top 100/R1 initiatives.
  • Participate in Library and University Committees.
  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of event planning and project management.
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible with work schedule.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
  • Experience working in libraries, academic organizations, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience with Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Teams.
  • Experience with Google products.
  • Experience using fundraising and project management software.
  • Experience with Workday.
