Fall 2022 Workshops

This fall, the FAU Libraries will be offering a full slate of workshops designed to help students navigate the library resources to be successful at FAU. In addition to in-person workshops, several will be offered live online. All in-person workshops are 50 minutes long and will be held in room 136 in the Wimberly Library. Registration is not required to attend but is preferred. To arrange a library session for a class or a research consultation, call 561-297-2902 or email lyilis@fau.edu.   

Business Resources

This workshop is a must for business majors. Focused on three different aspects of business research, it introduces the students to some of the 70 different business databases available at the library.  Students can learn how to find business articles, information about particular industries, general company information, and financial reports.

Among the databases covered are Business Source Premier, ABI/INFORM Collection (business articles), Business Insights: Essentials, and Business Source Premier (for general company information); Mergent, Hoover’s, and Standard & Poor’s (for company financial information); and IBISWorld (for industry information). Students would also learn how to access the library’s online “research guides” for a one-stop, all-access introduction to the library’s online business resources.

The library’s home web page is mainly used to find books and articles, but there are more resources and services there that are available to students.  Explore the many behind-the-scenes features of the https://library.fau.edu/ page, including interlibrary loan, computer availability, borrowing privileges, one-on-one research assistance with a librarian, and other ways to get help. The workshop also includes information about the various library collections and teaches students how to utilize the website to find event information.

Targeted toward graduate students in the Department of Counselor Education and School of Social Work, this workshop covers topics including creating and refining a search strategy, the best databases for finding peer-reviewed journal articles in these subject areas, and cited reference searching using Web of Science.

Additional topics include useful sources for finding master's theses and doctoral dissertations, streaming videos of therapy sessions and noted psychotherapists, formatting a paper, and creating citations and references in APA format.

Did you know that FAU Library is part of the Federal Depository Library System? The U.S. Government Publishing Office produces publications and information (both current and historical) on a wide range of subjects: art and architecture, business and economics, consumer protection, criminal justice, culture and folklife, education, energy and the environment, foreign and international relations, health and medicine, labor, laws and regulations, nutrition, and science and technology. These resources are available at the Wimberly Library’s Government Information and Maps Department.

All this and more is done to provide university research materials and keep the United States citizens informed of what their government is doing or involved in.
