Florida Atlantic University and the FAU Libraries continue to carefully reopen with the health and safety of the FAU community as our number one priority.  This page will continue to be updated with the most important updates for operations and services from the FAU Libraries as we look forward to a full on-campus experience for the Fall 2021 semester.

Book Returns and Due Dates

We have resumed normal due dates for borrowed items.  Anything checked out or renewed is due in 21 days for undergraduates or due on 08/30/2021 for faculty, staff, and graduate students.  If you must return your books please use a book drop on campus.  Contact lycirc@fau.edu or 561-297-6911 for more information.

Borrow Materials

Our stacks are now open.  However, materials can still be checked out online from the Wimberly Library and Jupiter Library by students, faculty, and staff from FAU and Palm Beach State.  There is a maximum of 20 items per day per person.  Please follow this process:

  1. Search for your item in the FAU Library Catalog
  2. Click on the "Branch Campus Delivery/Interlibrary Loan" link at the bottom of the record.
  3. Log into or create a new ILLiad account.
  4. The request information should be auto-filled.  If not, edit as needed and then submit a request.
  5. Once your material has been pulled and is available, you will receive an email notification telling you how and where to pick up your items.
  6. Pick up a book....read....and return!

Computer Labs

All first-floor computer labs in the Wimberly Library and Jupiter Library are open.  This includes the Alumni Alcove in the west wing and the computers in the east wing of the Wimberly Library.  In Jupiter, this includes the PCs on the library's first floor, as well as the 24/7 computer lab adjacent to the library. 

To ensure proper social distancing several computers have been turned off and marked as unavailable.  As a courtesy to other patrons, please limit the use of computers to 2 hours.

Course reserve items can be accessed via the service desk.

Exam Space

Students are able to reserve private spots in a quiet area of the Wimberly Library to take exams  These spaces are available only by reservation and students will be required to use their own laptops and abide by current library policies.  These spaces are only available during normal library operating hours.   

Exhibits

All in-person exhibits are currently closed.  Please visit our current online exhibit, Erase Hate. 

Federal Depository Library Program

Virtual assistance is available to all depository patrons by contacting govinfo@fau.edu or calling 561-297-3788. Virtual office hours are available Tuesdays and Thursdays, https://library.fau.edu/virtual-office-hours.

GIS Corner

There are two workstations available in the GIS Corner.  Please make sure to wipe down the area before and after use.  For assistance please email govinfo@fau.edu or call 561-297-3788 (Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00).  Virtual office hours are available on Wednesdays.   

Government Information and Maps

Assistance from Government Information and Maps Department staff is available virtually and in-person during regular office hours. Please email govinfo@fau.edu or call 561-297- 3788 for assistance. Virtual office hours available Tuesdays and Thursdays.  

Interlibrary Loan

Physical materials located at the Boca Campus Wimberly Library and Jupiter Campus Library are available for paging by FAU and PBSC students, staff, and faculty at this link. You may request up to 20 items per day. All physical materials will be placed in our new 24/7 contactless locker delivery system and will be available for pickup for 24 hours.

We are happy to announce that we are again able to process Interlibrary Loan requests for physical materials in addition to electronically delivered book chapters and articles.  Please visit https://fau.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/Logon.html

Uborrow is also now available for requesting materials from participating libraries within Florida's state University/College library system.

Virtual Office Hours

We've launched informal, online consultations with library staff or subject specialists.  Library staff and faculty are available to answer questions, provide guidance, and assist with research. No appointments are needed.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS​​

What time do the libraries open?

The Wimberly Library is open Monday through Friday, 7:35 am - 6 pm.  The Jupiter Campus Library is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm.  The HBOI Library is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm with your Owl card.  For an up-to-date list of operating hours please visit our website

Who can access the library buildings?

Access will be limited to FAU and Palm Beach State students, faculty, and staff.  All patrons will be required to swipe their campus ID card for access.  Please follow these links for information on the Owl Card or Panther Card. 

PBSC students, faculty, and staff will need to fill out this form to gain access to the Wimberly Library and authorization to check out materials.  You should receive confirmation within 1 business day.  For questions please contact lycirc@fau.edu.     

For the safety of the campus community, we will not allow access to the general public during the first phase of reopening.  Members of the general public may request an appointment if necessary.  We have compiled information on local public libraries to assist the public.

Do I have to wear a face-covering while in the library?

In accordance with the FAU policy, "wearing of face coverings is now recommended, not required, when indoors. Face coverings are also recommended when in close proximity to others while outdoors. 

How can I get help remotely?

There are many ways you can connect with library faculty and staff for assistance.  Ask a Librarian is available to chat, text, or email.  You can connect directly with library staff or a subject specialist during Virtual Office Hours.  Click on the red pop-out banner on any web page to chat directly with a librarian.

What spaces are available in the library?

All floors are now open for access. Requests for materials can be made online and will be delivered via a low/no contact process.

Are food and drinks allowed in the library?

No.  Because face coverings are recommended to be worn in the library at all times, food and beverages are not permitted.  Dunkin' Donuts will be closed the entire fall semester.  Please enjoy all food and beverages outside the library.  

Can I check out a study room?

No. To ensure safe social distancing group study rooms will not be available for reservation during the summer semester.  The only study spaces will be in open areas of the library that allow safe social distancing.

Can I still access the online resources and services?

Absolutely!  Whether you are on campus or learning from a distance we have many services and resources available online.  Visit Lib2Go for a full listing of all our remote services and resources.  For a guide on remote services and resources visit here.  We encourage all students, faculty, and staff to continue to utilize the online services and resources.

Palm Beach State College students, faculty, and staff should refer to the Palm Beach State College website for remote access to databases.  

How will course reserves be managed this semester?

Course reserves will be 100% online for the summer semester.  Physical reserve items will not be available for the fall semester.  As always, the Libraries will work hand-in-hand with faculty to provide students the support they need to be successful in their academic careers.  Learn how to request items here.  

What technology is available to check out? 

There are a limited number of laptops and wifi hotspots available to FAU students with financial aid approval.  All requests must be submitted via the link found on this page.

My exam requires LockDown Browser and a webcam to take an exam.  Is that available in the library? 

Yes, the computers in the Wimberly and Jupiter Library have been enabled with webcams and LockDown Browser so you can take your exams at the library during library hours  

PUBLIC ACCESS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS​​

Can the general public enter our buildings?

Not at this time. For health and safety reasons, only FAU and PBSC students, faculty, and staff may enter the buildings so that we can reserve our limited seating and services for our students. Here is a list of local public libraries that serve the general public.

Can a member of the public access electronic resources from the FAU Libraries?

Our agreements with all vendors do not allow remote access to electronic resources to anyone who does not have an FAU NetID.

Can the public access our government documents and maps?

Although the public is currently unable to visit the library in person, we can help you access government information online and help you find digital maps. You may reach us by email at govinfo@fau.edu or phone by calling 561-297-3788 during regular library hours.

Can the public access Special Collections?

While our Special Collections and Archives spaces are closed at this time to the public, we are here to provide virtual research assistance. Access to online materials is found at https://library.fau.edu/special-collections, and to our finding aids https://archives.library.fau.edu/.
